Beverly Hills, CA -- A. Quincy Jones was a Los Angeles based architect and
educator who left his mark in Southern California with his redefining post-war
American designs.
The exquisite detailing and setting of Jones’s houses, churches, civic and
university buildings make them quintessential embodiments of mid-century
American architecture.
Now, like so many artists before him, one of Jones works will be taken to
market…on the auction block.
In 1955, Jones designed a home upon a 1.2 acre tract in what has become one of
the most prestigious zip codes in the country. The 6,400 plus square foot
structure is integrated into its surrounding landscape and includes many Jones
signature treatments, from floor to ceiling windows to stone work extending
from interior to exterior, making the home appear even larger than it is.
Property owner Dennis Moore, a former realtor, made the realization that the
combination of a Jones classic and a 51,000 square foot lot, creates the kind
of opportunity best served by the auction method of sale. On April 6 at 1:00pm,
this unique home and property will be sold to the highest bidder at auction.
Tranzon Asset Strategies, the company conducting the auction, in association
with Michele Blackmon Estates, are offering the property with a minimum bid
price of $4,165,000. Says Tranzon partner, Mike Walters, “with a minimum bid
price at just over $80 a square foot, there will be a lot of eyeballs on this
sale; not just Jones admirers, but I would imagine many people will be looking
at the endless possibilities for a flat 51,000 square foot lot just a block
away from the Beverly Hills Hotel.”
Tranzon partner and auctioneer, Jeff Tanenbaum, agrees but continues, “It would
be a shame to see the home torn down. After all, we are talking about the work
of an architect whose name appears in the same sentence as Frank Lloyd Wright.”
Michele Blackmon feels that the property’s size and architectural significance
make the auction method of sale an ideal method of establishing the property’s
true market value. Michele, who is known for representing high-end
architectural properties throughout Los Angeles, is optimistic that this could
be the beginning of a new trend to sell unique homes, quickly, efficiently and
stress free.
Who buys the property at 1010 North Rexford, and what they’ll do with it is
anyone’s guess. But one thing is for certain… if you’re willing to be the high
bidder at the auction, you can decide for yourself.
Tranzon companies cover the United States from coast-to-coast and specialize in
selling real estate and business assets at auction. More information on the
Auction can be found at www.tranzon.com or by calling 888-314-1314.
